GENERAL MEETING

MAY 20, NOON, VIRTUAL

TOPIC: SOCIAL MEDIA MISUSE ON THE RISE BY ATTORNEYS

Between living in a society where social media is ubiquitous and being subject to an ethical obligation of technology competence, lawyers have more reasons than ever to be conscious of their use of social media. But where are the ethical boundary lines drawn in our Digital Age? Using real world examples drawn from cases, disciplinary actions, and the headlines, this program will look at social media misuse by lawyers and how to avoid making these missteps.

SPEAKER: JOHN BROWNING (SPENCER FANE)

John Browning is a partner in the Plano office of Spencer Fane LLP, where his practice is focused on civil trials and appeals in state and federal courts across Texas and Oklahoma. Prior to returning to private practice, Justice Browning served on Texas’ Fifth District Court of Appeals. Justice Browning serves as Chair of the Center for Law and Technology at the Center for American and International Law, headquartered in Plano. The author of five law books (including three on social media and the law), nearly 50 law review articles, and hundreds of other articles in legal publications, Justice Browning’s work has been cited as authority by state and federal courts around the country. He has received the Texas Bar’s highest honors, including the Presidents’ Certificate of Merit and lifetime achievement awards for his contributions to legal writing, legal ethics, continuing legal education, and litigation.
