This will be the first of 6 monthly lunch webinars covering the nuts and bolts of Juvenile Law.

JUNE 15, NOON

TOPIC: Before Adjudication: Custody, Detention, Deferred Prosecution and Other Preliminaries

This Presentation will address issues and processes that arise before a juvenile respondent ever goes to Court on a charge. The relevant law regarding the detention of juveniles; juvenile statements, juvenile searches; and juvenile records will be discussed and how it is applied practically.

SPEAKER: Cyndi Porter Gore
Cyndi graduated from Texas Tech with both her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications (1989) and her J.D. (1994). After graduating she worked for a year for the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office and then relocated to DFW, where she spent 4 ½ years prosecuting for Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Her final assignment was in the Juvenile Division. After opening her own firm in 1999, she became Board Certified in Criminal Law in 2000 and in Juvenile Law in 2008. After spending 17 years defending kids and adults, she accepted the appointment as Presiding Judge for the Allen Municipal Court in January 2017. Her passion for kids continues with the Allen Teen Court Diversionary Program and Teen Court Academy and a small juvenile side practice. To better assist those defendants that appear before her, she has also created a Specialized Dockets for Adults and Juveniles with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Cyndi currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Juvenile Council for the Juvenile Section of the State Bar of Texas, Secretary for the Curt B. Henderson Inn of Courts, Chair of the Juvenile Section of the Collin County Bar Association, member of the Board of Legal Specialization Juvenile Law Exam drafting and grading team, and a regular contributor to the Judicial Commission on Mental Health (JCMH), Texas Juvenile Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Law Bench Book.
