Domestic Violence in the Age of Technology Lecture

Camille is a former elementary school teacher and became licensed as an attorney in Texas in 2013. She has a Background in social sciences and an interest in helping domestic violence victims.

Summary:

We will discuss some of the common technologies that are being misused by perpetrators of domestic violence, harassment, and stalking. We will give some tips on how or what a person needs to do to have law enforcement take the threats seriously and how to give law enforcement the evidence that is needed to press charges when appropriate. We will discuss some ways technology can be used to the victim’s advantage including such devices as cell phones, GPS, cameras, computers and internet. We will discuss criminal statutes so a victim can know what to do to hold the abuser accountable and how to collect and record evidence. Laws we will discuss include: 
 Texas Penal Code Sec.42.072. Stalking
 Texas  Penal Code Sec.42.07. Harassment
 Texas  Penal Code Sec.33.07. Online Impersonation
 Texas Penal Code Sec.21.15. Improper photography or visual recording.
